The minimize button is not "prominent" at all!  In fact, it's invisible
if the application is maximized.

More to the point, though: if I clicked a launcher button for an open
window accidentally and I now want that window to go away again, it's
much easier to just click that launcher button again -- conveniently
near the mouse I just clicked it with -- rather than run off to
whichever screen the window is on so I can find its minimize button,
which may or may not be visible and/or accessible.
