Public bug reported: I managed to install Ubuntu 14.04 on my MacBook exactly as i whish thanks to improved EFI support and this guide: http://glandium.org/blog/?p=2830.
This enables to boot Ubuntu without reFit or similar, but requires the grub-install to work on a hfs partition.
