In Evince upstream, we have seen similar reports in the past, but all of
them have turned out to be Ubuntu specific (i.e. issues with apparmor).

After renaming to test.pdf it works as expected.

This does not apply if file is in user home dir. Looks to me like distro
(namely Ubuntu) specific.
