Public bug reported:

ubuntu-desktop shouldn't depend on checkbox-gui. checkbox-gui is a
transitional package that can be safely removed once no package depends
on it.

You should be able to run 'apt-get purge checkbox-gui' without removing
ubuntu-desktop.
