Actually,

that's what i tried before. It just turned out that's "easier" to attach the 
external screen by login in at classic desktop (without effects).
But this doesn't mean it is working properly. It's again a trial and error.

The normal way I try to attach is:

-Log in (unity) without external screen attached

- Log out

-attach external screen and log in (classic desktop (without effects))

-log out

-log in to unity again with external screen attached (only possible if
the xserver didn't fail two steps before)

So far this is working maybe 40% of the times. But since I got some
problems with the booting as well (xserver sometimes doesn't start at
all). I don't want to risk it too often.
