** Description changed: Hey everybody - I have an acer laptop model acer 3810t + I have an acer laptop model acer as3810t The problem I'm experiencing has been present since ubuntu 11.04 up to 12.04 beta2 the thing is that sometimes - out of nowhere (completely random. seems not related to anything) the trackpad stops responding and requires a reboot sometimes it stops responding a minute after I login and sometimes days can pass without me experiencing the problem. I have no idea what causes it. I haven't seen other similar bug reports. I believe that it is an ubuntu issue since I'm also an arch linux user. the problem didn't appear on arch. thanks! I'll happily send further info. - --- + --- + WORKAROUND: + 1) switch to the console session (e.g., press <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<F1> and input your login & password as prompted); + 2) reload the PS/2 kernel module: + sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse + 3) try to exit the console session and switch to the graphic terminal (e.g., press <Alt>+<F7> or <Alt>+<F8> if VT7 is black). + --- ApportVersion: 2.0-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Beta amd64 (20120328) MachineType: Acer Aspire 3810T Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcEnviron: - TERM=xterm - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + TERM=xterm + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-21-generic root=UUID=2307a1b1-f278-42dd-95e9-713e04fe52f2 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-21.34-generic 3.2.13 Tags: precise ubuntu Uname: Linux 3.2.0-21-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 03/26/2010 dmi.bios.vendor: Acer dmi.bios.version: V1.27 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: Aspire 3810T dmi.board.vendor: Acer dmi.board.version: PSMBOU-1234567 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Acer dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAcer:bvrV1.27:bd03/26/2010:svnAcer:pnAspire3810T:pvrV1.27:rvnAcer:rnAspire3810T:rvrPSMBOU-1234567:cvnAcer:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.name: Aspire 3810T dmi.product.version: V1.27 dmi.sys.vendor: Acer version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.2-0ubuntu4 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.32-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.2-0ubuntu3 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0.2-0ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu8 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2
