I also can confirm this and it is worse on the latest kernel release. 2.6.31-15-generic. I was able to select (1) processor with (2.6.31-14-generic) and it would work close to native, but after the latest upgrade the sound and the performance in general has dropped. While the performance degradation can be seen you can actually hear the performance problem better. Sounds like playing a record at a slower speed. XP bad, Win7 better, Vista all but unusable. Linux guest are not as affected it appears but they are in a smaller way. Also this is not limited to the OSE version as it appears in the PUEL as well.
