Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gecko-mediaplayer
gecko-mediaplayer caches 20% of the movie it is about to play, regardless of the plugin cache setting in its preferences. What it should do is cache the amount specified in the preferences. Example: I use gecko mediaplayer to view YouTube movies using the HQTube Greasemonkey script (available from userscripts.org). I right-click on the movie I am playing and choose "preferences". Then I choose the "plugin" tab. Here I can set the cache size to one of a range of values, the lowest of them being 32kB. Yet no matter what value I set it to, that movie and subsequent movies will always wait until 20% of the movie has been loaded before playback starts. Since my internet connection is only a little faster than that required to play YouTube videos without glitching, a 10 minute movie will require most of 2 minutes caching before it starts playing.
