Snapshotting is fast (especially if you have JNA installed) and takes effectively zero disk space until you start compacting the live data files again. Thus, best practice is to ALWAYS snapshot before any upgrade, just in case you need to roll back to the previous version. ( *Cassandra version X + 1 will always be able to read data files createdby version X, but the inverse is not necessarily the case*.) Based on the above I think it should be supported.
