monitoring for spark standalone

Hello,

Are there ways we can programmatically get health status of master & slave 
nodes, similar to Hadoop Ambari?

Wiki seems to suggest there are only web UI or instrumentations 
(http://spark.apache.org/docs/latest/monitoring.html).
