hello, I am not sure what is wrong.. But, in my case, I followed the instruction from http://docs.aws.amazon.com/ElasticMapReduce/latest/DeveloperGuide/HiveJDBCDriver.html. It worked fine with SQuirreL SQL Client (http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net/), and SQL Workbench J (http://www.sql-workbench.net/).
