The version of ichat that will be included in Leopard will support the showing of various filetypes (eg videos, keynotes presentations) at the same time as live video, but as far as I know does not support full desktop screencasting. There may be addons that offer that functionality though, Im not sure.
In terms of free competitors to the likes of webex, I was reading about DimDim the other day: http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/09/07/dimdim-launches-foss-challenge-to-webex/ That article is getting old now but looking at their site it still appears to be windows only, unfortunately, But its an interesting one to watch if they increase compatibility, as its opensource. So it may be of interest to people who dont want to pay to use something like webex, but want quite a few simultaneous viewers so need some sort of server. Theres probably quite a few other options, not tried any of them myself, Im guessing theres still plenty of room for improvement and some really polished products that do this sort of thing will become more normal in the years ahead. I like http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatconnect/ because it also offers video funtion. But I don't see how either service is ideal. They both require all participants to call in by phone in order to hear what others are saying. > > I too am very interested in learning about any free software or service that allows for desktop sharing with computer mic for audio. > > skype.com would be an ideal parent to on this task. But they can't even get their video conferencing with two people working properly right now. Besides, a lot of phone conference services would loose tons of money if someone developed this idea-- so maybe the people who could make this happen just arent motivated yet? > > nerissa > > > > :::::::::::: > Nerissa Oden > > Discover my websites--they're helpful! > http://VideoCodeMaker.com > http://TheVideoQueen.com > http://FreeMediaGuide.com > http://FreeVideoCoding.com > > --------------------------------- > Finding fabulous fares is fun. > Let Yahoo!
