Don't forget, the CRT itself can hold high voltages in excess of 20,000 volts 
for a long time after being shutoff. best to discharge it from the B+ anode.

  What kind of monitor do you have? Sounds like the button broke, if  
  you're handy with a screwdriver, you might open it up and see if you  
  can fix it. (Just be careful of the high voltages, and make sure it's  
  unplugged first.) Those $5 connectors should work just fine, and  
  they're really handy to have around.
