I think we've encountered this issue before and it was fixed in one 
release of xCAT. we are again seeing weird nodestat behavior:
in the following example we can ping and ssh to all nodes but still 
nodestat gives the following output: 

s01:~ # nodestat c1 | xcoll
====================================
node1,node3,node5,node6
====================================
sshd

====================================
node2,node4,node7,node8,node9
====================================
noping
