Ohio's Dan Curtin [Metamorphic Records] delivers two diverse interpretations
of Tighter My Grip. His first Track mix is more in keeping with his recent
stripped down productions on Tuning Spork, with a sharply produced linear
reworking which focuses in on the original tracks vocals and shimmering
synth riff. His second string mix sees him turn in another of his signature
Techno-Funk classics, as only Dan Curtin knows how.
Long standing D1 collaborator Mark Broom, effortless as always, rearranges
Phoenix into two pulsating 4/4 grooves, with the originals haunting string
line riding on top throughout both. Again, as with recent D1 releases, this
is strictly limited vinyl run.

IKEABOY: "Through one thing or another this EP's release was delayed 5
years. Well I always wanted to make music that couldn't be dated so this
shouldn't make much difference provided I was successful. These tracks were
made before I moved from the MPC to the computer set up now which restricted
me from pouring fashionable effects on them which, I think, helped them not
to be easily dated.
I can still confidently stand behind these tracks because even when they
were written 6 years ago they were out of step with the Dj charts of the
time so they can't fall out of fashion if they never were in fashion. I
still enjoy them and they still surprise me despite the fact I've heard them
over and over. So here it is -the long lost Ikeaboy EP I hope you enjoy it.
Dayna - Dub influenced Detroit techno co-written with Mote. Doesn't sound
like Basic Channel or dubstep but a more of a cinematic vibe. In retrospect
it reminds me of a tougher Etienne De'Creicy's Super Discount record. Hitch,
built around a djembe sample played by Ben Small (thank you Ben!) Again in
retrospect, Jeff Mills' huge influence on me can be heard but thankfully not
in a way you could accuse me of any obvious plagiarism. I was getting tired
of repetition at the time hence the twists, turns and sharp lefts in the
arrangement. Animus - The kicks on the 1st and 3rd beat with a large snare
on the 4th formed the basis for two interlocking bass parts a silvery synth
riff, some strings, a little acid and that's it. Alien funk. Unfocused -
Another wandering arrangement in this electro track taking in growling bass,
glassy chords and a creamy middle 8. The return after the middle 8 gives me
a happy upbeat feeling unusual for my stuff."
