Exactly the same scheme works for those devices.  All you need is
someone with a real name who is willing to give you that name.  You
don't even need to put the name in the public DNS (no DNSSEC
required), because usually that device runs a DNS server that can
produce the mapping on demand.

The same drawbacks apply of course, the biggest one being that users
need to learn the name somehow.
