I think that the My Documents could be to much for the simple solution you seem to want due to all the users drives. Sounds like you are wanting to have all the users in a particular group to have the same desktop. And one of the things being on that desktop is a shortcut to a network share they all would have permissions to. To do this you need to create a Desktop Share with the icons you want them to use and then use Desktop Redirection.
This will give them all a common desktop layout with icons you setup for them without having to copy any files from their laptops and or computers and then doing synchronization for offline files.
