Joni, Legacy incremental backups will result in a log truncation.
When running legacy backups, after the backup completes successfully, DP/Exchange will signal the Exchange Server that the logs have been backed up. It is the responsibility of the Exchange Server to actually perform the physical truncation (deletion) of the committed logs after it gets this signal from DP/Exchange. (It's always been this way, by the way... it's a common misconception that a backup product actually deletes the Exchange log files.) Be aware that in an Exchange CCR environment, you may not see those log files get deleted right away because the Exchange Server must coordinate the deletion of the logs with the replica server. The IBM person that told you that you must run a full, could have been thinking that you were running VSS backups from the replica.
