@pjanik: I don't think it's a good idea to always use a default value if -1 is
returned. -1 is a defined return value for sysconf() to it should be treated as
an error f.e. with errno set to EINVAL.
So please apply your suggested patch and integrate it into your CWS pj54 (not
the rollback from eric).
