------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jun 6 06:51:41 -0700 2006 ------- I have put a priority 2, NOT because it needs to be fixed immediately, but because it needs a major redesign and rethinking of OOo Impress (likely to have a great influence on many users and back-compatibility). There are some strong limitations of classical presentation programs (like OpenOffice Impress and MS Power-Point). LIMITATIONS OF CLASSICAL PRESENTATION PROGRAMS * need for proprietary program to view presentation * NO WEB pages (OOo)/ proprietary HTML (Power Point) * rigid layout: designed exclusively for a fixed screen size, while monitors and browser sizes vary widely => for a web presentation) * primary concern with layout over content * NO multiple language support (for 2 languages you write virtually 2 presentations) * lack of functionality - NOT comparable to web possibilities I have seen recently a number of presentations saved as graphics and put on the web. Why save as a rigid picture and why loose all the functionality of the web? The web is a dynamic medium, and non of the clasic programs recognizes this. I have written a simple php-script that generates power-point-like web pages. Please note, this is NOT a request to implement a simple feature into OOo (like just saving html-pages, multiple slides per view, or some additional functionality, which my script supprots), BUT it goes more deeply into the problem: To make html-presentations and use the possibilities of the web: web browser virtually on every computer (or save it in some xml-format with simple plugins for mozilla or other web-browsers) IS THERE A FUNCTION FOR IMPRESS IN THE FUTURE? Of course. You write the presentation with it, BUT view it in a web browser. I have opened a new project on sourceforge.net (WebAPrez, still in review phase, therefore I append here the php-script). It is best viewed with Mozilla. Read the readme for further details. If you think, you can help, feel free to contact me. I am looking for many program developers. This pre-alpha release is fully functional, but needs a rewrite from ground up. I also hope, that the OOo developers recognize the potential of a web-presentation and will rethink the development of Open Office Impress.
