However, if you are in Windows, there is no equivilant. So I suspect Linux is a requirement. Left-drag text to be copied, switch to workspace/screen with OO loaded, paste by pressing middle button. Also by pasting to a text editor, I can see no special characters. The spaces really are 0x20. Therefore the problem must exist in OO. Looking closely at content.xml in the odt results, I see 0xC2 0xA0 where the problem is, and where it originally existed as 0x20. Sorry for the slow upload.
