The formatting of fields merged from a database should always follow the
formatting of the source document. In some particular instances, when the merge
ouput is an ODF document, the formatting of tab characters in the source
document can override the formatting of adjacent fields, giving them incorrect
formatting.

This can be worked around by adjusting the formatting of the tab characters, but
the workaround is not obvious because the formatting of the tab characters is
not visible.

See the attached document for an example.

Note:
* Merge in place ("Data to Fields") or direct to the printer, work correctly.
Only ODF output is affected.
* The example uses large bold tabs in a different font just to make the problem
more visible. The same thing can occur in the more usual case where the tabs are
default-formatted and the fields have special formatting: the fields are ouput
with default formatting instead.
* See http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14290 for
a real-world example.
