This is important because not all file managers use white backgrounds nor should they be required to substitute a background color for thumbnails. I originally filed this bug in gnome-do, which has a black background. Since most of my OOo thumbnails are for documents with black text, this means that their thumbnails are almost invariably impossible to see.
