Hi,

I'm new to this list (a week or so ago). I'm very interested in finding an
investment in AP. A few months ago, my partner and I called a real estate
office on a listing we saw on realtor.com. It was a disaster. Imagine every
possible failing a person could have in real estate, and he had it. I won't
bore you with the painful details.

Since then, we were referred by a relative who is on the Chamber to two
other realtors. Neither called us back. My family owns a Century 21 office
in north Jersey. We were referred to another agency in the AP area. THAT
realtor didn't call back, either.

It's starting to feel like a conspiracy of realtors--keep out potential
buyers.

Last week, we went to First Night. First, I have to agree with the person
who posted about the "Guns for Cash" sign. My heart went out to the
organizers of First Night. It must have been demoralizing to see that giant
flashing sign on Main.

We got to town early in order to drive around in the daylight. My sister, a
very successful realtor, was with us. We called a bunch of offices/realtors
based on signs on different properties. Things finally started happening. We
got responses and people willing to talk. We scheduled call backs for Monday
since it was getting dark and most people were tied up with either First
Night or life in general.

Here we are on Weds. morning, and guess what? We're chasing those realtors
down again. No call backs. We actually got one of them. He told us the
property we were interested in, listed exclusively with his agency, had been
on the market a very long time. A minute later, we were cut off. He never
called back. I just called and got him in the office. Amazingly, he is now
saying that that property has *been* under contract and that he had been
confused during our previous call.

What in the hell is going on with realtors in Asbury Park???? I'm starting
to think that maybe we *shouldn't* invest. How can the town ever survive
with real estate **professionals**?

Please email me if you have any insights, advice, or suggestions. I've been
a Bruce fan since I was 18 years old (going on 42), and I'm half of a
lesbian couple. I have wanted *very* much to see the re-birth of AP, and I
feel I want to match my emotional investment with a financial one, but I'm
having my doubts now.

One last thing...I'm sure this has been discussed, but I had to say that if
anyone knows about the Navy Pier in Chicago, you'll understand that that is
*exactly* what needs to happen to Convention Hall. What is the status of
refurbishing CH and the Casino?

Thank you.
Jacky
