AP Listserve Members: I am writing to share the following information with you.
Councilman Keady Distribution List In order to keep you informed about important community issues, I have created an email distribution list. This is not a listserve. You will not be able to post discussion items. It is solely a means for us to communicate with each other on a one-on-one basis. To sign up on this distribution list, please send me an email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will add you to the list. Summer Jobs We are still in the process of re-organizing the “Community Board” to address the summer jobs initiative. As we continue with this effort, I am actively seeking local businesses, both in Asbury and the surrounding areas, that are interested in hiring part-time workers for this summer. I have been pleasantly surprised with the local merchants that I have approached thus far about hiring local youth and would like to continue this momentum with your help. Asbury Park Soccer Club We are still in need of volunteers and donations for this summer’s soccer program. If you would like to volunteer, please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you would like to make a donation to the program, you can make your check payable to “City of Asbury Park Recreation Trust” and please put “Soccer Program” on the memo line. Then mail your check to: Councilman-elect, Jim Keady 1 Municipal Plaza Asbury Park, NJ 07712 Also, if you belong to a Church, Temple, Mosque, or community group in town, please email me so that I can get you a promotional poster and sign-up materials for kids who attend your services. 4th of July Parade Fundraiser There will be a fundraiser for this year’s 4th of July Parade this Thursday at 6:30pm at Jimmy’s Restaurant on Asbury Avenue. Tickets are $35. For more information, please contact Kiki Tomek at (732) 502-5721. Serving the Community As I continue my preparations to take office on July 1st I have duly noted that we are going to need many people to get involved in a range of projects to help make our city great again. If you have a particular interest and would like to serve the community, please send me an email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and outline how you would like to get involved. Sunday’s Downtown Bike Race A number of people have made comments about this past Sunday’s bike race in the downtown. I believe that the concerns raised have their roots in a problem that goes beyond this particular event – poor communication in City Hall. I do not hold the event organizers accountable for the fact that they were given permission to hold the race downtown and that the necessary street closings conflicted with another event planned by some of the downtown merchants, as well as the bingo event at the VFW. I will however make it a priority to find out who gave permission for this and how the oversight, which led to the conflict, occurred. I do want to go on record that I believe that the bike race was a good event and I think the downtown is an appropriate venue for it with proper planning and communication. I hope that this will become an annual event that will include all members of our community and will mirror the success of events like the bike race in Manayunk, PA that draws over 100,000 people each year. I hope this is information is helpful. If there is something particular that you would like me to address, please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace, JWK Jim Keady AP Councilman-Elect 1 Municipal Plaza Asbury Park, NJ 07712 www.cityofasburypark.com Yahoo!
