Mario,
As per your request for the email address
of the city manager and other members of city council, I have forwarded it to
them and I am waiting for their response. If they give me the green light
to post their email, I will do it ASAP. In the meantime, if you need to
reach the city manager, you can do it via the city switchboard at
732-775-2100.
Peace, JWK

Councilman Keady's Notes - July 6, 2005
In your post from July 15, below, you
suggest emailing the city manager with our concerns. What is his email
address? What are the email addresses for all the other council
members? I see that yours is ... @cityofasburypark.com.
If theirs is the same format, then I question the efficiency of
that method because of my personal experiences with the
"contact" page at the city's web site where it informs us:
"The inquiry
or message you submit below will be forwarded to the appropriate department at
City Hall."
For example, my inquiry addressed to Andre Willis regarding zoning
regulations on my block was never acknowledged. Might some emails be
floating around in cyberspace? And if privacy is ever an important
concern, should we wonder just how many folks have access to the email before
it reaches the addressee?
Is there a better way? Maybe just a
review, or better monitoring, of the "contact" page/system.

Tom,
I am writing to answer your question, "Is there any chance of requiring
the
department heads to attend at least one if not both of the two meetings per
month?"
I actually asked this question about a year ago as a citizen and did not
feel that I got a legitimate response. I will look into it again.
What I
know will be incredibly helpful for me is if you use the following process
to get matters addressed:
1. Send an email or letter to the City Manager outlining your concern. In
this letter clearly state the problem and what you feel can and should be
done to address it. Request that a written reply be sent to you noting
the
receipt of the letter. Please copy me on this communication.
2. Give the City Manager two weeks to begin addressing the problem, unless
of course it is of an emergency and immediate attention is needed.
3. If after two weeks the problem is not addressed, please send me a letter
letting me know this and I will follow up on the matter.
If in following this process it is determined that a department head should
address the public on the matter raised, we will schedule it.
I hope this is helpful.
Peace, JWK

Jim,
More often than not I notice a question from the public at a council
meeting goes unanswered because the information lies not with the
council or manager, but rather with a department head. Terry will
promise to get an asnwer and get back to the questioner later, but
then the rest of us never get to hear the answer.
Is there any chance of requiring the department heads to attend at
least one if not both of the two meetings per month?
