A former Asbury Park councilman and the owner of an Asbury Park restaurant were indicted on federal charges Tuesday that they conspired to accept bribes from a contractor who was cooperating with the FBI.
John J. Hamilton, 55, and Vincent "Vinny'' Baker, 61, were charged with conspiring and attempting to accept bribes from a cooperating government witness. Hamilton also was indicted on witness tampering charges.
Hamilton, along with 10 other Monmouth County officials, were arrested in a far-reaching FBI sting earlier this year.
Baker, the owner of Jennie's Soul Food restaurant in Asbury Park, was arrested Tuesday and was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court later today.
