Charlie, Asbury park developed in several phases. The street grid represents the easliest remains of Asbury Park's past. It has already been seriously impacted by closing streets, realignments, etc. The best period in time to develope lighting ideas from would be the 1920s and 30s. That was a boom time in AP as far as new construction and using technologies such as electric power. Trying to replicate lighting of the streets by looking at old images would seem to make sense, until one discovers that there are no good examples of appropriate lighting that would be viable today. So, one looks at other public lighting, the boardwalk in particular, presents great examples in the time period of interest. Look at some old images after the CH and CAS were built. Or when the Morro Castle grounded. So combining the two concepts, That of open view corridors with lighting from a historically significant period one can design a scheme that reinforces the existing assets of the City. That has not been done. The chosen plan clashes with the identity and historic values of Asbury Park. Werner Yahoo!
