TriCity is a paradox to me.
Dan Jacobsons writing makes me cringe. It's entirely self centered, biased and
self serving.
Even worse, it's nasty. The only saving grace for me is Clark's (from Twisted
Tree Cafe)
column. I've even grown to like some of what Tommy writes.
Mostly, I take home a few copies from The Saint to use for picking up dog poo.
Those people who want to internalize AP are making a huge mistake. It's going
to make
this city a ghost town. And, i'll be shocked if all those condo's fill up in my
lifetime.
And what you say about the WNEW concerts etc. is so right on the money.
Speaking of
money, those events generate lots of it. Why would AP not want some extra
$...for the city,
for the merchants?
I also had an interesting email conversation from one of the directors of the
Garden State
Film Festival. On their website, I noticed that the only dining suggestion they
had was the
IHOP in Neptune. I sent them an email about this, and according to that, the
IHOP was the
only restaraunt around who was willing to provide a little sponsorship. I'm not
sure if, or
how many other restaraunts they approached about this, but if the fact is that
other AP
restaraunts had no interest or desire to somehow be involved with the festival
then I find
that to be a bit lame. To me, movies and a good meal go hand in hand. I tend to
think that
the majority of people who attended the festival come from out of town, and it
would've
been nice for them to see what we have to offer here.
