Over the years when I've had old friends visit from out of state, for one day at least I would take them to Point Pleasant or Seaside to satisfy their need for the "Jerzy Shore Experience." Didn't matter to them if there was rain or blistering heat; indoor bar stools at some honky tonk were satisfactory perches to watch the ocean and all the local color; and no complaints about outrageous parking fees, overpriced booze, or mediocre dinners. Last summer, I thought a trip to LB's Pier Village would be a welcome change for them. Wrong move; it might as well have been Potemkin Village far as they were concerned: like any other faux environment you can find "Everywhere" USA. For penance, I had to drive them all the way to Wildwood the next day. ========================================================= In a message dated 7/10/2007 9:53:28 A.M. Yeah, after just being there on Monday I really wonder why people seem to think that it's a certainty that Asbury Park could never return to its glory days as an amusement area. It may be a certainty that they don't want it to be that type of town, but I can't see why people are so sure you can't have things be that way anymore when there is a town like Pt. Pleasant less than 10 miles away. I realize that property values are so high that it's tempting for condos and stuff, but there is definitely a lot of revenue being generated on that Pt. Pleasant boardwalk, tons of jobs, and crowds basically throughout the entire year - not just the summer. If Asbury Park wanted to return to that, it could. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
