I assume you are saying that the excess proceeds which go to youth
recreation only exist because of sponship and that the revenue from
tickets do not cover costs?

If that is true then in essence we are asking the sponsors to simply
donate to the programs. I see no problem with that unless you suggest
that the city becomes beholding to those same sponsors.

is some of the sponsor money used to actually fund the cost of the
event itself, in other words, do the tickets actually cover the cost?
Also, does this cost the City anything?

Having run organizations in the past, and still belonging to those
organizations today, I am of the school that ticket prices must at
least cover the costs of the event itself. Many differ on that and
have used sponsorships to make up some of the costs. I disagree with
that, although even this year, I was a sponsor for several thousands
of dollars. You get pressured into it that it is good business.
