Jack, The displeasure with the pavailion was prevalant in discussion within the hotel on July 4th weekend; both staff and guests were talking about it. I also noticed an item on the last Council Meeting agaenda "Possible litigation: The Empress Hotel", so, I suspect that it is not a rumor.
