"Brilliantly" is relative.....

Asbury Park was on the cutting edge of using new technologies. Two
factors played in that, founder James Bradley and the recognition that
visitors were attracted to the newest innovations.

Being a progressive resort, many technologies were taken advantage of
such as sanitary sewers, centralized gas and water distribution, along
with electric lighting.

Keep in mind that the lighting of that day was nothing like what is
available today.... A typical bulb put out far less light than those
of today.. dim by comparison, and of a different color.
