Approaching StormMAJOR SNOWSTORM TONIGHT
INCREASING WINDS AFTER MIDNIGHT SNOW WILL FALL FOR 12 HOURS LESS BUT WILL BE VERY HEAVY DUE TO RAPID DEEPENING OF THE STORM OVER OUR OFFSHORE WATERS Membership Feedback JANUARY 11TH - 6AM Winter Storm Warning in effect for the entire area with the exception of the immediate coastlines of Atlantic and Cape May counties Low pressure developing near Cape Hatteras on Tuesday morning and will move north-northeast just east of Long Island by Wednesday morning. The storm will undergo explosive deepening tonight leading to very heavy snowfall rates between midnight and 6am. Snow will develop between 6pm and 9pm in southern NJ, between 9pm and 10pm in the I-195 corridor including the Neptune area and an hour later in NYC metro and the remainder of northern NJ. Snow will end from south to north on Wednesday morning. There still is the chance of rain or sleet mixing in with the snow this evening along coastal sections. There is a better chance of this from southern Ocean County southward where accumulations may be reduced because of mixing and simply being a bit further south of the best dymanics with the storm. Snowfall accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are expected for northern Ocean County, Monmouth County and the eastern half of northern NJ including NYC. Elsewhere, 6 to 10 inches of snow are expected except for immediate coastal sections from southern Ocean County southward where 3 to 6 inches of snow are expected and areas near the Delaware River in southern NJ, including Philly, where 5 to 8 inches are expected. Some of the model guidance early this morning is really impressive with how strong this storm becomes in a short period of time. There will be a period after midnight to around sunrise when near blizzard conditions will occur. Fortunately, the storm is progressive so the duration of the snow will not exc_eed 12 hours. Wednesday will feature clearing skies and windy conditions with temps in the low 30s. I will make a quick post to the web site around midday. © Tri-State Storm Watch. All rights reserved.
