Great question!

I can't speak for all flat track skaters out there, but personally I don't
skate on a banked track because they are hard to come by, hard to maintain and
very very expensive to purchase.

When the Roller Derby resurgence happened, flat track was the cheapest and
easiest way to have pick-up games. It's grown immensely since then, but the
rules have been modified for flat track. Currently there are thousands of flat
track Leagues across the globe. This allows for more competition as well, being
that we play by the same rules on a flat surface. The flat track Roller Derby
requires similar athleticism, only we don't have the momentum/inertia to help
us around the track ;)

There have been more banked tracks leagues sprouting up lately, but for many
the cost is too high to purchase it and then there is the issue of storage.

Either way, I personally am so happy that Roller Derby is gaining interest,
flat or banked!

Thanks for asking!
