Mike, I have a Red Wine Audio modded SB2 (analog only) and love it. The improvements in sound quality aren't subtle. That said, the stock unit is very good but not in the same league as the modded unit, IMHO. I also have a linear power supply that I bought from Vinnie. He has power supply options that are reasonably priced and a plug in unit that won't require any soldering etc.
If you're going to use the SB2 as a transport only, I'd just get a linear power supply. The internal DAC is superb with Vinnie's mods though. I highly recommend Vinnie's work. He does exactly what he says he'll do at reasonable prices.
