Personally, I do not see the reason you state as a true reason. 
There'd have to be more specifics on *why* converting is necessarily
"bad."

Remember that coaxial cables have all sorts of "issues" to get right
when passing high frequencies, like impedance matching, bandwidth
limits, etc.
