Are you saying that the VU meters on the Squeezebox show that the left channel is louder?
I would expect those to register the levels in the digital data, and it would be very odd indeed if the Squeezebox were digitally boosting the level of one channel and not the other. A bug in the firmware or the slimserver, or perhaps the level bias is intrinsic to the tracks that you're testing with. What version of the firmware are you using? What version of slimserver are you running? Have you examined those files in an audio editor?
