No transformer is completely silent. However, you have to stick your ear to the case to hear the hum!
It's running much cooler than the other supply, only getting warm on the side that's bolted to the enclosure. Not totally cool like the switcher, obviously... I took the top cover off and touched the transformer and it was quite warm after 24 hours of "burn-in". I also found the output drifted to 5.04 volts. I readjusted it to exactly 5 volts again.
