I have found the same issue with the SB3 - particullary with the bass there seems to be a significant loss of control and boomy ness - Unfortunately I do not have a high quality CD player to compare it to - I am in the process of upgrading my stereo and the speakers were the first "big" investment. So I am sure that the amplifier is adding to the problem -
