You strike at the heart of the A-B testing issue, and it's an issue that needs a big wooden stake, I reckon. I once did a blind test where I switched between two (good) DACs via the pre-amp remote - I and a couple of other listeners couldn't hear the difference when we switched quickly from one to the other. However, if we listened to one DAC for about six tracks, then switched to the other, we were all able to define the characters of the DACs pretty consistently. We had moved from analysing the differences to getting into the music, and that was where the differences really were. So, if you're thoroughly enjoying your music while allowing 10dB of digital attenuation, what's the problem? The psychological benefits of adjusting the volume from the remote could outweigh any sonic benefits of a 100% level. Just enjoy the music, I say :) -- adamslim Shanling CDT-100, Rotel RT-990BX, Esoteric Audio Research 859, Living Voice Auditorium IIs, Nordost cables, Squeezebox due on my birthday :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ adamslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7355 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27832 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
