(A second post because of an important technical point)

Actually, I was pretty straightforward...but, in my experience, some
people, and especially those with vested interests, tend to be
defensive. But that's beside the point.

Nik -- you don't want to run an SB directly to you amps. Okay, I have
done that, briefly, and so have others. Briefly. However, no matter
what mods you have, running the SB directly to your amps is a bad idea.
Ask Sean. He writes about this in more than one thread. The point is,
somewhere long the line the digital volume control could fail and you
could blow your speakers. Not a good thing.

So, regardless, if you are using a SB, you need something between it
and the amps.

In my case, I am using a Lavry DAC. It has an attenuation feature,
like the Benchmark, so it essentially functions as my line stage. No
need for a separate line stage. Does this make sense?

The cabling thing is a non-issue. A half meter run of s/pdif cable to
a re-clocking DAC makes ZERO difference. Again, read JA's reviwe of
the SB3 -- it, with a cable and a good DAC makes for terrific,
world-class sound.

My bias: buy a SB3. It comes with a warranty. Buy a good DAC, like a
Benchmark or a Lavry. Again, you get a warranty. Be happy. Or, for a
bit more money, buy a Transporter.

Of course, some people ENJOY the process of modifying gear, and, well,
more power to them. The only reason I posted was because 1) some of
the things in that post seemed more than a bit iffy to me and 2) I
think it is inevitable that someone will come out with expensive mods
for the Transporter. Period. That is all I had to say.

Again, I beg of all of you: let this thread stop HERE. Let's just
accept the fact that we feel differently about this topic. If I
irritated you, I hereby apologize.

SB3->Lavry DA10->Nuforce 9.02s->Harbeth Monitor 30s/Skylan stands.
Simple and satisfying. In a larger room, I would move back to larger
speakers, subs, and probably RCS.
