I use a Ming-Da valve amp in my kitchen system that is about six inches
across; it cost me well under £200 and works well.  I also use a Sonic
Impact T-amp for my computer system that is tiny but actually sounds
OK; I haven't done an A-B comparison with the Ming-Da but I suspect it
might be slightly better...

I expect that systems like the SB3 + T-amp will take over the world
soon: 99% of people don't want anything better, and to be honest, it
does sound good.  Although to do it properly, of course, you need a
battery power station the size of the Three Gorges Dam...
