Whenever someone asks this question I suggest the following: - Sonic Super T-amp (~$150) - Onyx XL-S speakers (~$220) I have exactly this combination in my bedroom. The Super T is not very powerful, only about 8 watts per channel, but it is still loud enough for most listening, just not if you really want to shake the house. Many people compare its sound favorably to much more expensive amps. The XL-S speakers can't be beat for the price. They are available at www.av123.com. Once they had some cosmetic seconds for $179, which was a great deal! Anyway, there are lots of options but this one is particularly good in bang for the buck.
