Why do you say that?  

The jumpers on the TP are analogue attenuators, right?  It's not at all
obvious that not using them will give the best S/N - it depends on where
most of the noise is coming from.  If it's coming from the amp, it's
probably better to use the jumpers, but if it's coming from the TP or
from EMI or something, it's probably better as it is.  And as I
mentioned above, there's also the issue of distortion as a function of
gain.
