What about, as some suggested, bolting them to the floor/something heavy. I bet some of the physics guys here could tell us how many ft lbs/inch it would require to tumble a 45 pound speaker sitting on a sand filled pillar, but I'll guess not much. A heavier weight and larger diameter actual base will probably increase the stability exponentially compared to the filled pillar.
