flac is nothing else than a lossless compression format for wav with tag
support, with no loss in quality, where wav is actually the "raw" music
data. You can convert back and forth endlessy between both and you will
always get the same data. Now Slimserver gives you the ability to either
send the flac to the Squeezebox and letting the SB do the decoding work
(there are different compression levels possibile in flac with higher
values meaning getting smaller flac files, at the expense of more
processing power needed to compress and decompress) or to decode on the
server and stream the wav. Some here say that a streamed wav sounds
better to them, but in reality there really shouldn't be any
difference. I myself atm stream the wav, but only because the built-in
flac decoder of my SB doesn't like some of my flac files.
