I'm not going to come after you as some of the others have. The media format and rip precision obviously do make a difference. But the fact that some folks here prefer certain SB3 FW builds over others tell me that the FW has some impact on sonics, and the PCM stream coming out of it may not necessarily be "bit perfect" in a comprehensive way. There are a few other elements that look potentially noisy to me, including dropping a giant VFD assembly right on top of everything. You have a nice system that reminds me of my own in some respects (Mullards and TFKs in harmony can yield a terrific result). Try dropping some jitter reclocking between the SB and your Electrocompaniet and see if it settles down any. A really good reclocking instrument can minimize many transport shortcomings. You may not need a TP, and I doubt the analog output of the TP is in the same league as that in your DAC. I too run a D-60 cable off my CEC, and it can make a small difference. But it really becomes insignificant once I drop a D2D after it.
