I have the 805's little brother, the 605 attached to the AV system. The one thing I would criticise about it, given the price, is the time it takes to recognise the type of signal it is getting via its digital inputs.
While it is doing this, it mutes, and I think Sean is right in saying that this is probably what is ahppening in your case. Unfortunately it is even slower over the HDMI input.
