We used the volume controls to match all the devices and also the matching capability of the Naim pre-amp (should have mentioned that, sorry). We all thought we had got the levels pretty well matched.
I'm perplexed about your Tranporter volume comment. I use mine with the analogue outs straight into a Bryston 4BST power amp, sometimes with the balanced and and some times with the unbalanced outputs... the volume in both cases is controlled by my Receiver.
